Mother’s Day Out

St. Catherine of Siena’s Mother’s Day Out program’s mission is to ensure that your child’s first experience with school will be both positive and nurturing. The program consists of organized playtime, music, stories, arts and crafts, and outdoor play.  Classroom activities change as the children grow through the year and each class has a monthly theme that is reinforced through stories, songs, and art activities.

We strive to provide a fun, safe environment with age-appropriate activities designed to stimulate the child’s natural curiosity and encourage the development of the whole child – physically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually.

Preschool

St. Catherine of Siena Preschool’s mission is to serve our community.  We feel that the early education of the child is extremely important to the development of the whole child, academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually, and we offer this within the framework of our Catholic tradition. Since 1984, St. Catherine’s Preschool has been educating children in an atmosphere of acceptance and caring. We maintain the highest standards in selecting only degreed teachers and experienced staff and offer a quality, developmental preschool curriculum within our Christian environment.

A diverse, friendly, relaxed atmosphere, without regimentation, is the basis of the school’s daily program.  Teacher-planned projects with a strong emphasis in the fields of language arts, science, math, and art activities, which encourage self-expression and creativity, are a prominent part of each child’s day. Our curriculum-based Preschool program includes the award-winning Handwriting without Tears© & Get Set for School© curriculums, which allow us to take a multisensory approach to teaching children with different learning styles.  This program includes three key components:  Readiness & Writing, Language & Literacy, and Numbers & Math. Age-appropriate activities are planned with attention to the different needs, interests, and developmental levels of each child.  Various manipulatives, as well as quiet learning games and learning centers, are available at all times. Our weekly Creative Movement and Music classes help the children build strong fine and gross motor skills and help to reinforce learned math concepts such as counting, spatial awareness and patterning. In addition, children attend Chapel. Christian values are emphasized in ALL activities.

St. Catherine of Siena

A soul rises up, restless with tremendous desire for God's honor and the salvation of souls. St. Catherine dedicated her life to serving those in need. She served as a nurse in homes and hospitals, and looked out for the destitute. She spread her knowledge and love of God through her work and her writings. At the age of seven we are told that St. Catherine vowed her virginity to God. At eighteen, she received the Dominican habit. She then began to live in solitude and silence in her room, going out only for mass. But somewhere, somehow, in this silence she learned to read. This silence ended in 1368 in her "mystical espousal" to Christ, after which she suddenly rejoined her family at home and gave herself to the service of the poor and sick.
