Liturgy Ministry

*** Safe Environment Certification for Employees and Adult Volunteers is REQUIRED PRIOR TO VOLUNTEERING/ SERVING in Ministry ***

Ministers that serve at Mass

This Ministry consists of Altar Servers, Children’s Liturgy of the Word, Representatives for the Rite of Baptism, Extra-ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Lectors, and Ushers.  Check the calendar for schedule information.  To volunteer contact: Micheal Cervantes at 972-492-3237 X115 or mcervantes@stcatherine.org.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word:

This ministry serves children, ages 4-12, by proclaiming God’s Word on a level that they understand, and reflect on its meaning in their lives.  Usually, this takes place at all Masses on the 2nd and 4th weekends of each month. Readers, assistants and song leaders are needed.  A thirty minute prep per month is required.  Contact Micheal Cervantes at 972-492-3237 X115 or mcervantes@stcatherine.org.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion:

These ministers make it possible for the sharing of the Lord’s Supper to be experienced in a timely, yet dignified and reverent manner.  To serve in this capacity you must have received the Sacraments of Initiation and be in good standing with the Catholic Church. All required training will be provided.  EMHC’s are encouraged to foster a devotion to the Holy Eucharist and to continue their personal growth in holiness.  Contact Micheal Cervantes at 972-492-3237 X115 or mcervantes@stcatherine.org.

Lector Ministry:

The task of the lector is to make God present in the Liturgy of the Word and to communicate to the congregation, the Living Word, active and present in our lives. Lectors attend a preparation and formation session, 9:15 to 10:15 am, on the Saturday morning of the weekend they are scheduled to serve. Contact Micheal Cervantes at 972-492-3237 X115 or mcervantes@stcatherine.org.

Ushers:

These are the men, women and youth who make sure everything comes together.  The Usher Ministry functions to provide greeting and assistance to those attending the celebration of the Mass.  Membership is open to registered members of our parish.  On-the-job training is provided and service is on a rotational basis.  The duties include: welcoming the community, seating the assembly, preparing the gifts of bread and wine, collecting the offering, building the communion procession, distributing bulletins, and providing overall care, direction and hospitality to the assembly.  Contact Tim Powers at tim.powers@verizon.net.

Altar Servers:

They assist the Presider at Mass in the sanctuary enriching the assembly’s worship.  Anyone between the ages of 9 and 90 that can focus for an hour can serve our Lord at His table. Contact Micheal Cervantes at 972-492-3237 X115 or mcervantes@stcatherine.org.

Altar Society:

This ministry cares for the altar linens, towels, and occasionally, the servers albs. Ministers are responsible for picking up the laundry, washing and ironing at their home, and returning it to the church sacristy. Each member is scheduled to serve approximately once every eight weeks. Contact Micheal Cervantes at 972-492-3237 or mcervantes@stcatherine.org.

Representatives for the Rite of Baptism:

Baptism representatives assist the families of those being baptized during the weekend liturgies; help with reserving seating for families; assist the Presider; call the families to answer any questions and remind them of the protocol. Training for this ministry is done individually. Contact: Micheal Cervantes at 972-492-3237 or mcervantes@stcatherine.org.

Wedding Coordinator Assistant:

Wedding assistants help the Wedding Coordinator in several ways: organize the bridal party processional, pin on boutonnieres, put printed programs on a table, help with the distribution of communion among other preparations as needed. Contact Micheal Cervantes at 972-492-3237 or mcervantes@stcatherine.org.

Funeral Coordinator Assistant:

Funeral assistants help the Liturgist for funerals: help families place the pall on the casket, bring in the thurible and incense, and help with the distribution of communion if needed. Contact Micheal Cervantes at 972-492-3237 or mcervantes@stcatherine.org.

Environmental/ Liturgical Designers:

This ministry is responsible for creating the “look” of the liturgical season in our worship space by using symbols, colors, light and all forms of decoration. The team consists of designers (those who plan for each season), decorators (those who assist in setting up and taking down the liturgical decorations), plant care people (those who water and maintain the indoor plants), and floral designers. We need people with creative abilities, as well as “worker bees” (no experience necessary). We meet as needed. Contact Micheal Cervantes at 972-492-3237 or mcervantes@stcatherine.org.

Music Ministry

Adult Choir:

It is preferable that one knows how to read music, but not mandatory. Attendance at rehearsal is required.

Accompanists:

Pianists are needed to play for liturgies. Accompanists must audition.

Instrumentalists:

Solo instrumentalists (wind, guitar, string, brass) add an extra special touch to music at liturgies. Instrumentalists must audition.

Cantors:

The role of the cantor is to animate the sung worship of the assembly, share in the proclaiming of the Word of God, particularly the psalm, and teach the assembly its songs and acclamations. Cantors must audition and attend rehearsals.

Children’s Choir:

The children’s choir meets on Thursdays in room 17 in the Family Life Building from 4:30 – 5 p.m. Any children from 1st through 5th grades are invited to join. Contact Micheal Cervantes at 972-492-3237 or mcervantes@stcatherine.org.

St. Catherine of Siena

A soul rises up, restless with tremendous desire for God's honor and the salvation of souls. St. Catherine dedicated her life to serving those in need. She served as a nurse in homes and hospitals, and looked out for the destitute. She spread her knowledge and love of God through her work and her writings. At the age of seven we are told that St. Catherine vowed her virginity to God. At eighteen, she received the Dominican habit. She then began to live in solitude and silence in her room, going out only for mass. But somewhere, somehow, in this silence she learned to read. This silence ended in 1368 in her "mystical espousal" to Christ, after which she suddenly rejoined her family at home and gave herself to the service of the poor and sick.
