Mission Team

The history and evolution…

The Mission Team first formed under the inspiration and leadership of (the late) Father Mathew Kavipuaryidam who, unfortunately, left us too soon in 2020.  But it wasn’t until early 2021, that the team evolved into its current form of vetting / enabling “hands-on, Mother-Teresa-like missionary experiences, right here at home!”  The current philosophy is:

  • one need not always travel to faraway places to serve those in need
  • one need not confine their missionary experience to financial contributions.  Today’s focus is “DO and witness” LOCALLY!
  • The “Join Us in Serving…” list has been personally experienced / vetted by the St. Catherine Mission team, and promises to be an opportunity to see and be the face of Christ, in the spirit of our Catholic Mass dismissal:  “Go forth to love an serve the Lord!”

St. Catherine of Siena

A soul rises up, restless with tremendous desire for God's honor and the salvation of souls. St. Catherine dedicated her life to serving those in need. She served as a nurse in homes and hospitals, and looked out for the destitute. She spread her knowledge and love of God through her work and her writings. At the age of seven we are told that St. Catherine vowed her virginity to God. At eighteen, she received the Dominican habit. She then began to live in solitude and silence in her room, going out only for mass. But somewhere, somehow, in this silence she learned to read. This silence ended in 1368 in her "mystical espousal" to Christ, after which she suddenly rejoined her family at home and gave herself to the service of the poor and sick.
